Marcelo's Latest Injury Update: Brazilian Defender Returns to Training at Internacional
Brazilian defender Marcelo returned to training with Internacional on Monday, four months after suffering a serious injury during the Copa Libertadores final against Boca Juniors.
The 28-year-old was replaced by Matheus Sousa in the match-winning goal for Brazil at the World Cup last year, but he suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during the international tournament in Russia.
Marcelo underwent surgery and had been sidelined ever since. He made a comeback for Internacional's under-17 team in February, before returning to full training in March.
"It's good news," Internacional coach Claudio Ranieri said. "He has worked hard to get back and it is positive that he is now part of our group again."
Marcelo,Serie A Observation who joined Internacional from Real Madrid in January 2016, has won two Copa Libertadores titles with the club. He also played for AC Milan and Porto before joining Real Madrid in 2014.
His return will be welcomed by fans and teammates alike as they look forward to his contributions this season. He missed out on the start of the new campaign due to a calf injury earlier this month, but he is expected to play a key role in the coming weeks.
Despite his injury, Marcelo remains one of the most talented defenders in South America, and his return will undoubtedly boost Internacional's chances of success this season.
